Chapter 1320 - 99: The Last Bastion
Chapter 1320 - 99: The Last Bastion
As the sense of detachment brought by the curved path shuttling gradually faded, Bologue successfully arrived inside the Remongedon. Before his vision fully cleared, Bologue decisively drew out the Grievance Bite with his right hand, while his left hand rested on the axe handle, poised for action.Bologue deeply understood the importance of his mission, for which he had nearly mobilized all his energy, focusing intensely on the upcoming actions.
Ether expanded silently, turning into layers of ripples that gently tapped the surrounding material, bringing forth faint echoes. Bologue relied solely on these echoes to swiftly sketch the general situation of his current environment in his mind.
No mobile targets were temporarily discovered, nor were there any other Ether reactions detected.
The tension in his will relaxed slightly, and subsequently, his vision became clear. Bologue gradually made out this dim yet magnificent land of ruins.
"My God..."
Aimou’s astonishment echoed in his mind, and Bologue froze in place, momentarily forgetting the blade in his hand.
Bologue felt he hadn’t arrived at a wasteland; rather, he had reached an artistic hall.
Pointed archways resembled elegant knuckles, gracefully connecting the long corridor one after another, the floor shimmering with a mysterious mirrored feel. Sadly, due to the wear of time, it no longer dazzled but was cloaked in mottled dust.
On either side of the corridor, splendid, glass-like crystalline walls stood, inlaid within the stone frameworks. They emitted a transparent and mysterious glow, like dreamlike paintings, light behind the walls leaked out gently, like hazy moonlight. Through the crystal’s refraction, the light once pure and flawless transformed into picturesquely colorful hues, as if from a fairyland.
"Here... is this the Holy City of Remongedon?"
A voice of doubt sounded in his mind. Aimou couldn’t believe the scene before her; it was entirely different from the perilous place she had imagined.
Bologue did not become overly obsessed with these extravagant creations. He looked toward the end of the corridor, where the air, dust clearly visible through the dim light, drifted in the airflow. Seconds later, the air brushed against Bologue’s cheek, carrying a slightly scorching sensation mixed with the scent of ashes.
"Light Scorch and Calamity."
Bologue murmured softly in his heart.
Previously in the Abandoned Land, he had observed Remongedon’s state from a distance, where massive and twisted flesh had completely infested the city, entwined with it like a parasite.
The scorching light continually burned the flesh of Calamity, turning into tons of ashes, which were thrown into the sky by the breathing storm of Calamity, piling up into mountains.
Bologue suspected that the airflow stirring within the corridor here originated from Calamity’s breath, akin to the sensation of a breeze felt inside a cave. Following the direction of the airflow, Bologue could locate Calamity’s presence.
"Did you hear it, Bologue?"
Aimou’s voice echoed in his mind. Bologue cautiously slipped into the shadow of a corner, only then, following Aimou’s instructions, began listening carefully.
Bologue heard it.
In absolute silence, Bologue heard a distant, deep breathing sound, as if a giant was slumbering here. Accompanied by the breathing, frenzied airflows surged wildly, crashing through the buildings and corridors.
Everything here seemed as if specially designed by King Solomon; the airflow passed through the hall, unexpectedly playing bursts of musical notes.
Bologue attentively listened to the prelude; crescendoing string instruments performed with a soft bow stroke, carrying gentle, intricate tones, as if recounting a quiet tale.
Woodwind instruments gently played in the mid-low register, delivering modesty and elegance, the flute flowed like water. Its winding and pure tone resembled a delicate stream meandering through in aural perception.
Bologue’s gaze somewhat lost focus; he felt as if he wasn’t executing a perilous mission but had stumbled into an artistic hall.
The giant’s breath reached its peak, the stirred airflow became increasingly intense. Simultaneously, the symphony played by this massive architecture entered its climax.
Clashing cymbals brought intense reverberations, like ripples spreading on a mirror surface. The string instruments burst forth with fierce melodies, rapidly and challengingly resonating with swift notes. Their rich and sonorous tones were akin to a surge of tremendous power.
Bologue’s body involuntarily trembled; his vision of the corridor began to distort, the ground ash blown away by the wind, and the polished, mirror-like earth became clear.
Like standing on a slippery ice surface, Bologue lowered his head and saw another self.
He puzzledly scrutinized Bologue; then, he slowly crouched down, reaching out his hand toward the Bologue above the mirror surface.
"Bologue!"
Someone called for Bologue; the voice fleetingly vanished, drowned by the overwhelming sound of music.
Bologue discerned the violin’s timbre, melodies exceptionally tension-driven, rapidly and fervently challenging the limits of the sound range, while the cello expressed rich strength in the low register, its deep tone akin to a surge of subterranean magma.
"What... is happening?"
Bologue lowered his head, gazing at his reflection in the mirror. He had realized the irregularity in his state, yet his body and mind were unable to make evasive moves.
Suddenly, brass instruments played strong, bold melodies, like a heavy punch fiercely struck on Bologue’s head. Following this, the trumpet sounded bright and clear, like a sharp needle piercing the eardrum, crushing the brain structure. Subsequently, the trombone with its solemn tone intensified the thickness and expansiveness of the melody, reminiscent of the echo of the earth. In an instant, Bologue’s body felt thousands of times heavier and immovable.
