Chapter 237: Rejection

Chapter 237: Rejection

The Heaven’s Door had become the machine for producing rank 6 mages. Every day someone would break through the bottleneck where they had been stuck for ages and reach the Assimilation Stage.

And after breaking through, they immersed themselves inside the library, learning new spells. Kadyn was preparing for the war, he dared not hold himself back in providing resources to his people. Even Aleera who was worried for some time about the safety of Vrilas and the whole Pengolla was smiling from ear to ear. After learning new spells her strength had already reached new heights.

Kadyn’s people also supplied a huge amount of potions and artefacts to the Magic Association, earning a huge sum of money, though it was not of much use to Kadyn now since he already had overall control of his shop.

After Elora, Zelie, Hot Rod and others became rank 6 mages, their speed of production and brewing increased. Now they could easily brew the fifth rank--Rare rank--potions and artifacts. They had also started producing rank 6 products, and although their speed was slow, they could make those legendary potions and artefacts, nonetheless.

And most of those rank 6 potions and artefacts went to Kadyn’s people. After all, they also needed high-level potions and artefacts, and he did not want to provide his people with any less powerful artefacts than the Magic Association. Come on, he was literally the owner of Magic Shop.

Anyway, today Aleera brought a woman with her and introduced her to Kadyn. "She is Kali. One of the elders of Magic Council, a good friend of mine."

Kadyn nodded and looked at Aleera in confusion. Aleera understood the look in his eyes; therefore continued to explain further. "I want you to help her like you helped me." However, her voice lacked conviction and confidence as she did not know if Kadyn would accept her proposal.

"Oh," Kadyn raised his eyebrow and eyed Kali. She was around twenty-five years old tall woman, taller than him. Her wavy black hair waved behind her back and her piercing dark brown eyes scrutinised Kadyn carefully. She wanted to see through him. What kind of a person could produce such a massive number of rank 6 mages? She was still in disbelief when she learned it from Aleera.

"Why should I help her?" Kadyn suddenly said.

Kali frowned, visibly displeased with his tone. She was the elder of the Magic Association, the world’s strongest organisation. No one dared to talk to her in that tone. Kadyn was the first. However, she remained silent, controlling herself from voicing her discontent. On the other hand, Aleera smiled helplessly and said, "Why did you help me? Help her also for the same reason."

"Hmmm," Kadyn placed his right hand under his chin and held it with his left hand, pretending to think, and then said, "Alright, I will help her. But--" Then he took out a scroll and extended it towards Kali. "--before I help you; you have to sign it."

"What is it?" Kali spoke for the first time, her voice was thick, but not manly. It had its own feminine charm. There was that beautiful soothing huskiness in her voice.

"This is a.. contract," Kadyn said, still waving the scroll at her. "It will ensure that you do not backstab me after using me."

"What do you mean?" Kali frowned. He could see the traces of anger on her face, although she tried to control herself and subside her rage, how could it escape from Kadyn’s sharp eyes?

"Read it," Kadyn said. "You will understand."

Kali took the scroll from Kadyn and read it for a good amount of five minutes before hoisting her head to look at him. She shook her head and went on. "Sorry, I won’t be able to accept your offer."

"Well, your choice. Your loss," Kadyn shrugged as if he had already anticipated this answer. He knew that the elders of the Magic Association were arrogant and prideful, how could they become his employees? Not a chance. But he could not ensure their loyalty without the contract. He did not want to be betrayed after he helped them.

It was their choice if they wanted to get his help, but first, they needed to sign the contract. They could reject him if they had any problem, as simple as that.

As for Aleera, well, you may call him a hypocrite or simp, but he had a soft spot for her--from the first time he had seen her in Avibria city. She was an exception but he would not give that treatment to any stranger who may think himself or herself some bigshot. This was his territory and they needed his help, so they got to follow his rules.

Kadyn looked at the fading back of Kali and turned towards Aleera. "Well.."

"Never mind," Aleera shook her head and sighed. She knew that for mere pride, her friend had lost a huge opportunity in her life. Nevertheless, she was helpless to do anything in this regard. Kadyn also had his own misgivings about Kali, therefore, she could not find any fault in him asking to sign the contract. He was giving too much in return after all.

"I do not mind helping people to become strong," Kadyn said. "However, I can’t help someone whom I can’t even trust. She is the elder of the Magic Association, if I give her everything just like that she would take it for granted, that’s why I wanted to sign a contract with her. Too bad she rejected."

"Then why did you not ask me to sign that same contract?" Aleera asked with a smiling face.

Kadyn eyed her mesmerising face and chuckled. "You aren’t like her. You are different."

"How am I diffrent from her?"

"Do you really want to know?" Kadyn already knew about Aleera’s origin. Alerathla, the flame sparrow, had told him that Aleera was not from this world. Nonetheless, Aleera did not know that knew about her.

"Sure--"

"Brother Kadyn!" Just when Aleera began, someone shouted from behind them. Kadyn and Aleera turned and found Slyff rushing towards them. He was in the form of a bird.
