Chapter 330 - 58: Stir It Up, Just Go Ahead and Stir It Up
Chapter 330 - 58: Stir It Up, Just Go Ahead and Stir It Up
If Reiya had been the one in the spotlight, they wouldn’t have had any objections. They would have applauded and switched sides.
Of course, Sylvia probably wouldn’t be able to sleep then.
Westheid cursed, "Those parasites in the Imperial Capital! All they know is how to suck up and play both sides! They won’t do any of the hard work, but they’re the first to jump out and mock you or blame you when things go wrong. They’ve got a goddamn addiction to telling people what to do!"
Alexia’s eyes lit up when she heard this, but she quickly suppressed it and said flatly,
"Isn’t that a bit too harsh on them?"
"Harsh my ass!!"
Westheid’s roar was undisguised. His powerful, resounding voice sent out ripples, and more than half the camp heard it, including Mivana, who was being tossed into the air by her brothers and sisters. The Wolf-eared Maiden immediately got down and ran toward Westheid.
"What’s wrong? What happened?"
The joint Monarch of the Qinghui Territory and Yonglan puffed out his chest, pointed his thumb down at the ground, and declared forcefully,
"I said what I said, and I’ll say it again right here! I know why Sylvia sent you. She wants an explanation for those insects in the Imperial Capital, wants me to back down and say a few nice words. Well, I can give you a clear response... Your Excellency, Legion Commander, write down what I’m about to say, and please relay it word for word."
"The Imperial forces are stretched thin. I did everything I could to recruit reinforcements to fill the gap, but they pull the rug out from under me! For the country? They dare lecture me about acting for the country? When have they ever thought about the country? When have they ever thought about our Holy Tree Dynasty? Yes, I modified the contract, but I am both Duke of Qinghui Territory and the Southeast Imperial Guardian. I’m juggling my duties. If I fail to clear the Chaos Corruption from the Mortal World, who will take responsibility?"
"Let them stir up trouble! Let them! Let them stir things up until Chaos Corruption runs rampant across the land, until the Southeast Imperial region is in chaos, until the Empire is destroyed! All I can do is play their deadly game with them!"
After his tirade, Westheid took a deep breath and said calmly,
"We can’t count on those insects anymore. The people of the Empire, the people of the Mortal World, are all on the brink of death, desperately in need of saving."
"That’s why I have to lead my troops across the border. If the Imperial Legion tries to stop me... it would be deeply regrettable, but I will force my way through even if we must come to blows."
’Ooh! Is he going to fight the Imperial Legion? Yes, yes, yes!’
The moment Westheid finished speaking, the surrounding Yonglan Knights who had been watching the show perked up. They had long wanted to test their mettle against the Empire’s elite legions. Among the Realms of Order, aside from the Celestial Vault Kingdom—the undisputed big brother—there had been no real battles to verify the strength of the terrestrial nations.
To the Yonglan Knights’ disappointment, however, the flaxen-haired Imperial Legion Commander showed no hostility after being yelled at so fiercely. Instead, her expression softened, and she placed a hand over her chest, bowing to Westheid.
"I understand. I will convey your words to the Imperial Capital, without omitting a single one, so that the central authorities are aware of your will."
The Imperial Legion Commander straightened up, paused for a moment, and added,
"As for the matter of the Knight Expeditionary Army crossing the border... I will no longer obstruct you. I will also suppress any dissent from my subordinates. However, until the Expeditionary Army reaches the warzone, my legion must send an escort. I apologize, but this is the greatest concession I can make. Any less... and I would not be able to convince myself."
The Knight King nodded. "That’s more than enough. It’s completely acceptable."
Westheid was, as usual, using his precognition cheat. It was precisely because he knew Alexia was the supreme commander guarding the Yonglan border that he had acted so aggressively.
The soldiers of the Radiant Holy Tree Empire are very pure-hearted; they are all born to serve their country faithfully.
This sentence was the perfect description of Alexia—and that’s not sarcasm!
As one of the few Transcenders from the Age of Strife, [Valkyrie] Alexia had always been rushing around the Empire, putting out fires everywhere and significantly slowing the Empire’s collapse.
She seemed to be part of the Regent King’s faction, but in reality, her only loyalty was to the Empire.
Everything Westheid had just said was, in the future, Alexia’s own words! He had basically spoken her heart’s true feelings, so how could she not approve?
"So there’s not going to be a fight? What a shame."
Mephit sighed, tapping a delicate, pretty cheek with a finger.
The Yonglan Knights who had just gathered around immediately lost interest and dispersed, leaving only one Beast-eared Maiden behind.
Westheid then looked at the Wolf-eared Maiden and said,
"Mivana, how many of your people are willing to leave? Get them ready. We’re moving out."
The wolf ears on Mivana’s head shot straight up. She patted her full, ample chest and said,
"I’ve already asked! Most of them are willing to come. They just need a few more days to complete their initial class change through the Magic Tome, and then they’ll be qualified Warriors!"
Things were simple after that. With no resistance at the border, Westheid quickly set out with the vanguard of the first Expeditionary Army.
The composition of the force was quite clear. Aside from the Qinghui Guard and the Beastman Warriors, the rest were elite Knights from the Gale Heart—the Knight King’s personal troops.
This fully armed Expeditionary Army, escorted and monitored by the [Wall of Immortality] Legion, solemnly crossed the Imperial border.
This was almost unimaginable in the past—the army of one Realm of Order marching across the territory of another.
This, of course, caused intense dissatisfaction and humiliation among the Imperial Legions. Fortunately, Alexia vouched for them with her own honor and took the initiative to soothe her soldiers’ emotions.
She even personally stepped forward to act as their overseer, which was what allowed this expeditionary vanguard to pass through smoothly.
"The chasm between nations is too deep, and trust isn’t easily built. Once the Expeditionary Army proves that it is truly performing a purely righteous deed, the resistance won’t be so severe."
Westheid spoke to Alexia beside him as he rode on the [Death’s Claw] Griffin.
The Legion Commander gave a noncommittal grunt. She seemed to be pondering something, and only after a long moment did she turn her head to Westheid and say,
"Duke Qinghui, there is actually something else I would like to ask you."
"Please, go ahead."
"I’ve heard tales of your pilgrimage in Yonglan, of the immense power you displayed. And you only advanced to the Legend rank this year, correct?"
"Mm, that’s right."
Alexia said with feeling, "What an astonishing growth rate. The strength you’ve displayed has far surpassed that of an ordinary Legendary Celestial Rank. You’ve reached a new realm, becoming invincible in the Mortal World."
"I wouldn’t go so far as to say invincible. Far from it."
Westheid truly didn’t consider himself invincible.
True, under normal circumstances, he could now be considered one of the strongest in the Mortal World. But being the strongest meant nothing; at most, his one-on-one combat strength had increased.
He could now relatively easily defeat three or four Legendary Celestial Ranks working together. If he were facing veteran powerhouses like Uther, the [Black Knight], he could probably only handle two or three. Any more than that, and he’d have to consider avoiding a direct confrontation.
If he couldn’t even handle being ganged up on, how could he possibly be called invincible?
Not to mention that things like the remnants of a Celestial God’s grace still existed in the Mortal World. Mephit had used just a touch of it to beat him to his knees, almost turning him into Star Fury Power.
It wasn’t just the Country of Yonglan; other nations had similar trump cards. The Divine Ancestors had hardly been stingy with their gifts to their followers. Anyone who came along with a Divine Ancestor’s blessing or a Holy Artifact could push Westheid to his limit.
The gap between gods and mortals was simply too vast. A single Ascension Ceremony completely separated them into different orders of magnitude.
There was simply no comparison between before and after Ascension. Even the strongest Ascender, before they officially entered the Sanctuary, was nothing but an ant before the Celestial Gods.
It was precisely because Westheid knew the most that he was more aware of his own shortcomings and maintained a relatively humble attitude.
Alexia’s purple eyes stared intently at Westheid as she said,
"You... you must have freed yourself from the restrictions of the Paths, haven’t you?"
Hearing this, Westheid’s eyelids drooped slightly, and his voice became much quieter.
"Why would you think that? To walk the Path of Transcendence unlit by any Path is incredibly perilous."
"Duke Qinghui, please stop playing dumb... After the Divine Ancestors departed from the Mortal World, I had this feeling. By breaking free from the Paths and developing freely, my power, which had nearly stagnated, began to grow again, far beyond my expectations."
Alexia pulled off her glove, revealing an arm wrapped in bandages, and said,
"In other words, I did it too."
